Hello Everyone!! Just a reminder for the people out there who are interested in buying our Casa Mascia products. The newsletter will be starting up next month and if you want to take advantage of discounts, vouchers and news on latest products, please sign up for the newsletter.
We just delivered a fresh batch of Lime Sulphur XXX Pet Dip For Mange, Fleas, Ticks and Ringworm (wow…what a looooong name). The guys at the Farm Store in Punta Gorda just call it Presidente (the name of beer from which we have recycled the bottle)…for Pets. Brian, the manager at the Farm Store tells us that the Pet Dip is very popular.
Later on I spoke with Gnome and discussed the possible reasons for the popularity of this particular product.
Munchkin: “Hmmmm, Maybe it’s because we use recycled bottles.”
or
“Maybe it’s the Triple XXX on the label…makes it look really serious.”
or
“Maybe it’s because people imagine two doctors in the bush, stirring over a cauldron of sulphur pet dip, and think it’s really cool imagery….”
Gnome, of course had a reply:
“Maybe it’s because it actually does what it says on the label.”
Oh. Selling something that actually works. What good marketing strategy!
Checkout this product in The Apothecary or check it out at The Farm Store in Punta Gorda, Belize.
Ooooh…look at that…stacks of Chocolate Artisan Soaps. We are getting ready for the new season with our lovely soaps made from Toledo Cacao and coconut oil. Here is a gallery of some of our chocolate offerings made by Gnome, the budding artist!
These are brand new for the season: White Chocolate Mint Soap….smells delicious…you’d think you could eat them!!
Artisan Chocolate Soaps…these are the swirly ones….
Oh…and of course….100% Doggy Approval…this one tries to grab and eat them!!
Still messing around with SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Whatsits. Today was really tedious because I had to delete all 824 pages of old blog posts and pages…one at a time…because it would not let me delete in bulk. Phew…it was totally brain-numbing and my head is spinning!! I had to remove the old blog because apparently you can get penalised by the search engines for duplication of information. Anyway, it’s done!! As a reminder, new blog is at blog.casamascia.com and apothecary is at https://casamascia.com/
After I had finished, Gnome decided to throw a bit of humour into the situation by saying,
“Oh Dearest…I have a Gnome Operation SEO for you….”
Munchkin none to pleased with the thought of more Internet work:
We are still working on the Apothecary Website…aaargh!!! It is never-ending and I just spent the afternoon filling my brain with articles on SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Aaaargh again!! I got in a bit of a strop and whined to Gnome:
“Aarrgh!!! Nothing is straight-forward!!!”
Wise Gnome looked at me and smiled,
“It’s not just about using whatsits like Meta Keywords, Meta Tags and Meta Descriptions my dear.”
Gnome continued,
“Our Apothecary is All About the Stories. There is a story behind every single product that we have created and invented together…”
“…go forth Munchkin and tell the stories behind each of our magical, herbal creations!!”
Here’s something for the hair from the House of Mascia! This is actually a Golden Oldie and was one of our first products; it is now back by popular demand. It’s just one of those things…as soon as we stopped making the product, we received emails asking, “…where is this?” and, “I bought this a while ago and I can’t find it anymore.”
And so we have it available in The Apothecary and if you live in Punta Gorda, it is available at Vance Vernon Pharmacy.
This is a hot oil treatment that can help re-condition dry and damaged hair:
Allspice and Orange Oil helps stimulate circulation and encourages hair growth.
The combination of base oils nourishes the hair especially if it is sun-damaged, chemically treated or in general bad condition.
The copal resin has natural anti-septic and anti-fungal effects. The anti-inflammatory property of this ingredient also soothes irritated and sensitive scalps.
And this is how you use it:
Warm vial of hair oil in glass of hot water while washing hair. Dry hair and apply oil to hair. Wrap in plastic for 20 minutes. Relax. Re-wash with shampoo.

Hope you are having an enlightening Good Friday! Well, it’s hot and we are definitely in the midst of dry season which means it is time to tap copal (Protium copal) for the resin. The most popular use for the copal blocks is as incense. To use, just break off pieces and burn over charcoal. Another use for copal is as a skin treatment for rash, inflammation and itch; copal has been used by the Ancient Maya for centuries as a traditional remedy for skin ailments. It also has natural anti-septic qualities so can be used for minor bacterial and fungal infections. Here are some pictures of fresh copal:
Fresh copal has the smell of rainforests with an uplifting resinous scent.
If you are interested in reading more about the medical properties of copal, click on Copal As Medicine.
Here are some products that we make from copal. We recommend these products for skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, insect bites and as a preventative treatment for skin infections.
If you want to view more of our copal hand-made products please look at The Apothecary. For anyone living in Punta Gorda (Belize!), you can buy our Copal Medicinal Oil and other products at Vance Vernon and Mahong Pharmacy.
I have updated The Apothecary section of our Website and finally (it has been more than a year) put in the following pictures:
